3,000 abortions are performed in Iowa City each year

The nation's highest per capita abortion rate is found in Eastern Iowa. The consequences are staggering: 95% of women who have had abortions wish that they had been given more information before they made their choice. Over 90% wouldn't do it again. Babies are dying every day, and their mothers have to live with their regret for the rest of their lives. All is not lost! We now have an effective way to serve these women and their medical needs while maintaining respect for the lives they carry.

Research has shown that when women have access to ultrasound, the number of abortions dramatically decreases. When ultrasound is combined with counseling, 88% of women at risk for abortion intend to carry their babies to term.

Here's how Informed Choice of Iowa assists mothers in obtaining the information they need in order to choose life:

  • After confirming pregnancy with a free pregnancy test, we provide the expectant mother with a FREE ultrasound of her baby.
  • We provide counseling on open, closed and semi-open adoption, with referrals to Catholic Charities and Bethany Christian Services.
  • We provide a personalized Solutions Assessment for each mother, and refer her to pro-life OB-Gyn and Family Practice Physicians in the area.
  • She will leave our clinic with an appointment at New Beginnings, a local material assistance program that teaches accountability and parenting through group and one-on-one counseling and classes. They also provide diapers, formula, clothing and furniture for new moms.
  • We provide referrals to other agencies and area churches with MOPS meetings (Mothers Of PreSchoolers), bible studies, and other programs geared toward women and young mothers.

 

We will compete on every level with the abortion clinics of the area by providing pro-life medical care.
