Informed Choice Medical Clinics will soon be going Mobile … and his name is Charlie!
My husband and I always name our children before they are born. It’s one way we choose to celebrate our children and recognize that they are a whole person from conception. We did have two little girls who had boys names for their first few months but there have been no long term emotional scars … that I know of. I always talked about my children while they are in the womb as if they were out of the womb. When people would ask me “When are you due?”, “How are you feeling?” or “Is it a boy or a girl?”, I would respond with “Lincoln will get to meet the rest of the world in January but for the next few months I get him all to myself” or “Maggie and I are feeling wonderful, we are both growing right on schedule. Thank you for asking”.
At Informed Choices, when we have the opportunity, we always encourage the young moms that come in to do the same. For myself, the staff and volunteers at the clinics, the excitement of a new life is the same whether the baby is from our own families or a baby saved from abortion because her mother came to Informed Choices and got all the information she needed to make an informed choice.
So perhaps you can understand our excitement for a new mobile medical unit that will be out in front of the abortion clinics. It is the excitement of a new life because this mobile clinic will be saving lives. Even though we are still raising funds and the mobile unit hasn’t been built yet, we have chosen to named “him” Charlie in honor of our dear friend Charlie Burke. Charlie was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and for many years was a sidewalk counselor in front of the Planned Parenthood clinics in Davenport and Iowa City. On Wednesdays when Charlie was in Iowa City praying and talking to abortion minded women he would send them to Informed Choices for an ultrasound. We know that Charlie’s words and prayers saved many lives. Soon after he went home this past winter the Planned Parenthood in Davenport stopped doing surgical abortions. I believe it was because of Charlie’s persistent prayers. When it came to naming our mobile medical unit, Charlie was the first name that came to mind. May Charlie carry on the mission of his namesake for many years to come.

The interior of our mobile clinic will be specifically designed with the woman’s needs in mind.
A Mercedes-Benz Sprinter will be custom converted to create a mobile medical unit with all of the amenities to help a woman feel welcomed and comfortable in our clinic.
In our clinics today 91% of abortion minded women choose life.
